01 年正式發跡的俄羅斯雙人組 t.A.T.u. 其名俄文含義暗指那女生跟女生發生關係，可說是那段黃金時期最知名的女子團體，並成為俄國音樂團體有史以來最好的商業成果。02 年經典專輯《200 km/h in the Wrong Lane》中的〈Not Gonna Get Us〉〈How Soon Is Now〉〈All The Things She Said〉在老闆 12 歲時就燒遍 MTV 電台與大街小巷，時尚的搖滾編曲加上 Breaks、House 等前端電子元素營造首首極為抓耳的火紅單曲，直到在二十年後的派對歡場播放時仍能造成舞客轟動。

兩位同期俄國童星歌手組成樂團，當年 16 歲、紅髮帶雀斑天真形象的蕾娜與黑髮叛逆纖細的尤莉亞，在經紀人與公司操作下「演出」一對被世界拋棄的少女戀人，無數傳唱作的歌詞內容均搭上如此設定；而她們肆無忌憚並在媒體前無視常規的中二形象，吸引無數年輕樂迷同時亦招來非議，而這正是那時代流行樂壇所需的。
