來自加州的獨立樂團新星 Ginger Root 為身兼導演、音樂製作人 Cameron Lew 領軍的一組音樂企劃，因多部復古詼諧 MV 接續發佈佐以獨特風格獲全球獨立樂迷的矚目。2021 年正式發行 EP《City Slicker》，宅氣雄厚的 Lew 正是受到我們先前多次介紹的 Toro y Moi 所啟發，成為全球獨立音樂復古浪潮下的一顆耀眼新星。

先前因一曲〈Loretta〉在網路上爆紅的加州獨立樂團 Ginger Root，將前張 EP《City Slicker》主打的復古 City-pop 日系元素再度投入音樂錄像風格中；2022 年 Ginger Root 的新發 EP《Nisemono》，更是一篇冒名頂替巨星的幻想故事。

作品世界觀設定在 1983 年，Ginger Root 為了頂替在攝影棚臨陣脫逃的日本偶像 Kimiko 出道登場，展開一場虛構的「一個巨星的誕生」（nisemono 即是日文的『贗品』之意）。專輯風格慣例展現獨特的電子合成器脈動和淡化的鼓點，兩者與 Lew 柔軟朦朧的聲線，反覆彈跳於這段懷舊復古的荒唐假期。
